We are so delighted – Wexford Home Preserves were awarded a coveted Gold Award for our Handmade Ave Maria Seville Orange Marmalade in the 2020 World Marmalade Awards!
The prestigious Dalemain World Marmalade Awards received 3,000 entries this year from 42 countries including Senegal, Kuwait, Argentina and Australia.
According to the organisers, “The quality of entries has never been higher and the winners are to be hugely congratulated for their skill, talent and inventiveness.”
Tom and Laura were due to travel to Penrith, Cumbria – a scenic area in the North of England – to be presented with the Gold Award at the weekend but decided against travelling due to the Corona Virus crisis. Tom and Laura had been trying for five years to win the Gold Award, so this decision was extremely painful, but the only responsible one.
We make great efforts to make world-class marmalades, as well as other preserves, in our batch kitchen in New Ross. The oranges used for our Gold Award winning Seville marmalade are organic and sourced from the Avé Maria family citrus farm in Seville. Tom and Laura Sinnott travel to Spain to visit the farm and make sure that the very best fruit is selected for our products.
Pips from carefully selected lemons are removed by hand and used to make a natural pectin to set the marmalade, which is cooked by hand in open pots.
We have been able to continue production as normal to date whilst monitoring and implementing the advice provided by Government, HSE, the World Health Organisation and other relevant authorities.
Every person involved in the making of Wexford Home Preserves products strictly follows meticulous hygiene and quality process regulations to ensure the safety of all.
Wexford Home Preserves are also the proud recipients of a slew of other awards from the Dalemain World Marmalade Awards including :

Laura Sinnott commented “We have been striving for Gold in the World Marmalade Awards for the past five years. This is our Olympics – where the absolute best marmalade makers are judged by the best experts in the marmalade making world. So for us this is a true success and an honour. We are so grateful to our dedicated team here and to our customers.
We are, of course, sorry we couldn’t go to the Awards presentation in the UK but we know we all need to work together now to keep our loved ones safe and we will make it our business to celebrate in brighter times.”
To celebrate winning the Gold Award, Laura and Tom made a donation on behalf of Wexford Home Preserves to New Ross Meals on Wheels. Colm Caulfield, treasurer, was pleased to receive the contribution and said that it would make a big difference to those who are relying on the Meals on Wheels service especially during the Corona Virus emergency.
Wexford Home Preserves is an award winning artisan maker of jams, marmalades and savoury preserves based in New Ross, Co. Wexford.
It is owned and run by Tom and Laura Sinnott, having been established in 1988 by Tom’s aunt Ellen. All products are made by hand in small batches in the Wexford Home Preserves kitchen using all natural ingredients. Natural pectin is made in the kitchen from local apples for jam and from lemon pips for marmalade. The open pot boiling method is still used to cook all products.

The World’s Original Marmalade Awards were founded in 2005 to help to preserve, grow and widen the art of marmalade making. From small beginnings they have grown into an internationally renowned and highly acclaimed event, with support from leading companies such as Fortnum & Mason, The Worshipful Company of Fruiterers and Paddington Bear.
The Awards have humour and a life of their own and have inspired people from all over the world to get involved. In 2019 almost 3,000 jars of marmalade were sent from countries as far away as South Korea, Botswana, Japan, Australia and the Philippines, while the Artisan Marmalade competition has helped to promote small producers around the world. Judged by a small panel of experts, Dalemain roundels denote marmalade of exemplary quality.
At the heart of the Awards & Festival is Dalemain Mansion, a Georgian stately home lived in by the same family for over 300 years and the holder of a rich archive of early marmalade recipes.
